President Umaru Yar'Adua Dies
President Umaru Yar'Adua, who gave amnesty to armed militants in the troubled oil-rich Niger Delta region, died Wednesday, the country's information minister said. He was 58.
Yar'Adua had not been seen in public since November, when he went to Saudi Arabia for treatment of an inflammation of tissue around his heart.

Sixteen years after the Rwandan genocide, thousands of perpetrators who confessed their roles before the traditional Gacaca Courts have been released and sentenced to community service, but survivors say this is an inadequate punishment. "The punishment should be [close] to the pain those inmates inflicted," Theodore Simburudali, the chairman of the genocide survivor organization, Ibuka, told IRIN. He urged the government to do more to stop the killing of genocide survivors in parts of the country.

Congo - The young woman with the hacked-off lips and stitches where one ear used to be shakes her head when asked why rebels did this to her, then whispers that the attackers who came from across the river were angry because she kept crying for mercy and calling on God for help.
Cornelia Yekpalile, a 23-year-old mother of four children, was mutilated 18 days ago when she went to the fields near her village of Kpizimbi, set in dense forest in northeast Congo, to collect spinach-like "pondu" vegetable leaves to cook for lunch. Food remains scarce and villagers have to scavenge the jungle for meals.

Ugandan President, Gen. Yoweri Museveni has advised Uganda's development partners not to waste time on what he calls non- issues like advising him on how to conduct elections .While addressing the East African Investment conference, Museveni said that he is often approached by Development Partners who want to address him on issues like Elections and how to control Riots which are simple issues for him to address.
Museveni wants Partners to deal with what he calls real bottlenecks like infrastructural problems, ICT, and Water issues. He said these are the real issues which are keeping majority of the people poor. He argued the development partners and investors gathered for the 3rd East African Investment Conference that opened in Kampala on Wednesday in Kampala not to be concerned about politics only, but focus on the development needs of the region.

Thousands of people flocked Mukono community center to give support to the DP's former spokes person, Betty Nambooze Bakireke during her nomination for a parliamentary by-election due May 25th. The seat recently fell vacant after the Supreme Court found the disputed winner, Bakaluba Mukasa guilty of election malpractices in the 2006 polls.
